ABOUT
The first “Ride for the Cure” in the Greenville area was held in September of 2007. In an effort to increase awareness in the community, the ride was based at the Harley-Davidson dealership in Winterville, NC (formerly J & E Harley-Davidson). The second annual event was also held at the dealership in October of 2008.
In March 2009, a group of 10 people joined forces to form “Ribbon Riders of Eastern NC, Inc.“. Having fought their own battle with cancer or having a loved one affected by cancer, the group realized the need for awareness and support on a local level. After serving as a “stop” on the ride for the first two years, the Breast Imaging Center at Eastern Radiologists, Inc. became the host site and a major supporter of the annual event.
“Against Da Oddz” Motorcycle Club was introduced to Ribbon Riders by a mutual friend in 2009. The connection of sport bike and cruiser were a taboo to say the least, however, both members had a bond that lead to a unique relationship. Like the Ribbon Riders, Against Da Oddz is a group of professional men and women consisting of riders that wish to benefit their community. Since 2009, this group of sport bike riders has piloted the ride without incident, even in the rain! Against Da Oddz Motorcycle Club continues to be a strong supporter of Ride for the Cure.
Each year, “Ride for the Cure” continues to grow. In 2012, there were more than 100 riders, coming from communities across the state and parts of southeast Virginia. In addition, we had more than 40 cars on-site for our first Car Show.
Net proceeds from the annual “Ride for the Cure” and fundraising efforts throughout the year are donated here in eastern North Carolina. The monies distributed are used to support breast cancer screenings, early detection programs, and provide assistance to breast cancer patients (women and men) during treatment.
